News & Announcements
July 2011: Church House Investments announces the launch of a new investment trust, Trade & General Investments Plc. For more details see the separate tab after ‘News and Announcements’ June 2011: Garden Party at Minterne House – Church House Investments entertained around 175 Dorset-based clients and friends of the firm in the splendid surroundings of Minterne House, near Dorchester. Despite intermittent rain, Lord Digby gave a tour of the magnificent gardens, made notable by his plant-hunting grandfather, while his son, Henry, gave a wonderful thumbnail portrait of his own and the Churchill family’s tenure at Minterne, compressing 260 years’ history with hilarious anecdote. May 2011: Sherborne Abbey Festival – Church House Investments once again sponsored this ‘gem of a festival’ (as described by Simon Jenkins) and took 20 clients to the show-piece orchestral concert featuring the sensational violinist, Nicola Benedetti. April 2011: House of Lords Reception – continuing our involvement with the Somerset Community Foundation, we sponsored a reception for donors and beneficiaries of this vital grass-roots initiative hosted by Lord (Ewan) Cameron of Dillington and welcomed a host of Westminster-based luminaries with strong West Country connections such as Lord King, Lord Armstrong, Lord Patten and Jacob Rees-Mogg MP. March 2011: The Beaufort Hunt Point-to-Point Races – embellishing our strong connections with the equestrian and Gloucestershire fraternity, we sponsored a race at this iconic meeting, made the more so by the retirement of Capt. Ian Farquhar as Master and Huntsman of the famous Beaufort hounds the day before after 26 years of ‘carrying the horn’. March 2011: Aldon Horse Trials – continuing our long-standing sponsorship of this top-class one-day event which has raised hundreds of thousands for local charities such as St. Margaret’s Hospice, RNLI and the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust. The open event was this year won by Paul Tapner on Carlito III with William Fox-Pitt the runner up on Blue River II. Christmas 2010: 'Surviving Winter Appeal' - Church House Investments decided not to send Christmas cards again but instead support the Somerset Community Foundation's 'Surviving Winter Appeal' . This enabled those in receipt of the Government’s Winter Fuel Payment who felt they did not need it to help the most vulnerable in the county this winter. Nov 2010: The Royal Institution of Great Britain - Church House Investments hosted a seminar and cocktail party at the newly-refurbished rooms of the RI in Albemarle St., W1. The RI is the only one of the 'learned societies' founded in the 18th century still to occupy its original premises. Merryn Somerset-Webb, editor of MoneyWeek and a contributor to FT Money, gave the main talk. Oct 2010: The Somerset Community Foundation's Annual Meeting - Church House Investments were delighted to be able to support the SCF, an organisation which arranges effective and sometimes really life-changing help direct to smaller community groups and charitable initiatives who struggle to make their voice heard. Aug 2010: The Cattistock Hunt Clay Pigeon Shoot - Church House Investments entered a team of clients and friends which in balmy summer conditions ( i.e.driving rain) acquitted themselves honourably and enjoyed a splendid lunch provided by the organisers and hosts, the White-Hamilton family. July 2010: Dorset Opera - Church House Investments sponsored Dorset Opera's production of 'Carmen' and picnicked lushly with clients in the grounds of Bryanston House.
